I’ve been searching for the right set of pickups for my CS 59 reissue ES 335 since I got it. This isn’t the place to go on about all the other brands/winders I’ve tried, but the list is extensive and prestigious. They all were missing something or had too much of something.
I titled this review “Goldilocks PAFs” because these are “just right” in every way. More clarity and bite than $700 low wind sets, but without sacrificing the low end and midrange. Very full, but not bloated or muddy in anyway even in the neck. Perfect amount of output (don’t let the high DCR numbers fool you) to do everything from full lush cleans to phenomenal rock tones. They bite, they bark, they chirp, and they definitely bloom. David has really unlocked something special here, don’t hesitate to grab a set.
I could play any pickups, many of them for free...I choose to pay full price for David's pickups. They simply are the best.
Like butter. Nice fat juicy PAF tones; the notes just bloom. The bridge matches nicely with the neck and the middle position has that spank as well.
These pickups are the best! I put a Shep 60 PAF into the bridge of one of my Charvels as well as a Shep 90 Hum in the neck position. Man these things have so much harmonic content and really sing when you play through them. Sounds like butter. Love them!
