With over two decades of experience leading pickup design and development for Mojotone, David Shepherd has dedicated his career to pursuing exceptional tone. During his extensive tenure at Mojotone, David was the architect behind the scenes, hand-crafting solutions for some of the most iconic figures in music history. Legendary guitarists from Jeff Beck, Alex Lifeson, and Johnny Winter to Billie Joe Armstrong and Charlie Starr, trusted and sought out his bench, while top industry guitar techs considered his pickups to be their secret weapon.
Whether collaborating with Eric Clapton's tech, Lee Dickson on recreations of Clapton’s iconic Blackie and Brownie Strat pickups or working alongside Stevie Ray Vaughan's tech, René Martinez to rewind some of Stevie's original Strat pickups from his most iconic guitars, David’s approach has always been rooted in precision and collaborative problem-solving. Throughout these years, he also spearheaded signature pickup projects for major guitar industry brands, including PRS, ESP, Ibanez, and Godin.
With the launch of Brickhouse Toneworks, David is channeling those 20-plus years of master-bench wisdom into a boutique pickup company without any compromises. By focusing on a dedicated "whatever it takes" artisan-level workflow, David ensures every pickup that leaves his bench is wound with the same relentless precision and magnetic magic that earned the trust of the world's greatest players and builders. At Brickhouse, the focus is simple: uncompromising quality, tuned to perfection, and built to make your instrument come alive.
